The fundamental rules seem simple but are often overlooked. Everything in the kitchen must be instantly accessible...but even before that, visually accessible. Easier said than done! When you're planning or buying a kitchen think behind the door! You don't want to be on your knees in front of a base unit unpacking a shelf to reach something at the back, probably so old that it is useless.

So, no fixed shelves. Everything in base units - drawers or internal pull-outs must be able to extend on a smooth, full-extension basis with the ease of soft close. Once the drawer or internal pull-out shelf is out, all stored goods must be organised with flexible, moveable dividers to suit the user's needs - this greatly helps to maximise space.
