British..and proud of it!
"Isn't it a shame that we have to remind people that British design and manufacturing exists with features like this?"
Published:  06 June, 2008

Profound yet very honest words from Edwin Loxley's Founder and Managing Director, Joe Cavani.

British kitchen furniture, in particularly in - frame kitchen furniture, has never been so popular, with inframe advertisements and editorial features dominating the pages of the many home interest, retail magazines on the shelves . Even some of the mid market high street kitchen brands have introduced in - frame product lines. Given this situation, it really irritates me that if a lay person were to read some of the trade press they would consider the opposite to be true. The amount of trade coverage given to companies such as ours gives the impression that ‘British in - frame' is somewhat of a cottage industry and that the top end of the market place is dominated by European brands.

Although there are many innovative British inframe brands, the trade press tend to continually wax lyrical about European brands and how it is they who ‘push the creative envelope'!

I recently spoke to an Italian kitchen manufacturer who came on to our KBB stand. His opinion was that the UK in - frame kitchen furniture market was largely based on the concept of ‘a tree with a hinge!' Maybe his opinion was based on the market place that existed in times gone by? Who knows? However, the UK trade press had done nothing to alter his opinion; not necessarily through what they had printed, rather what they had failed to print. Thankfully, he found the reality very different. His opinion, I am proud to say, had been changed by what he had seen on our KBB 08 stand. He, like many of the retailers we gained from the show, was impressed with our design capability, the beautiful materials that we use and above all, the engineering that he felt surpassed anything on show from Europe.

As both a designer and a manufacturer, I am influenced by a broad spectrum of periods and styles, to include European! However, my dealers have the biggest influence on my furniture designs. We only make and supply furniture to our dealer network, making us unique. We are very much dealer led and work closely with them to introduce new design concepts and initiatives and engineering levels that enables them to stay ahead of their competition, whether it be British or European.

Our dealers and I truly believe that the Edwin Loxley brand now represents kitchen furniture that is totally bespoke and is at the very top end of the market place. We are proud of our furniture and believe it embodies a level of quality, engineering and innovation that is well out of reach of the European manufacturers.

Lets shout about British in -frame kitchen furniture on a more regular basis and celebrate the many British success stories, from the many successful British, manufacturers.
