The Best of German from Häfele
Published:  01 May, 2007

Products made in Germany have always had a certain caché - especially those that are engineering-led and rely for their good name on functional effectiveness. The quality and operational efficiency of the furniture fittings and components coming out of the factories of Häfele have made it a leading brand and have allowed the company to expand and grow.

Häfele Germany are designers and manufacturers of many of the jointing fittings that hold the global furniture manufacturing industry together and one of the most notable of these is Minifix which has sold, quite literally, in its billions – and continues to do so.

The huge success of fittings like Minifix have underpinned the growth of Häfele in Germany and allowed the company to expand impressively - there are now more than 30 subsidiaries bearing the name in other countries around the world.

Recognising the different needs of host markets around the world, management both of the German founding company and of subsidiaries, like Britain’s in Rugby, promote a large measure of autonomy in the products that each sells. But those of German design and manufacture are always prominent for the quality and reliability they represent.

The portfolio of Häfele’s Rugby subsidiary includes such names as Mepla, Vauth-Sagel, Ninka and Hailo, each leaders in their respective fields.

Mepla are makers of hinges, one of whose recent innovations is the Soft-close hinge system. Soft-close smooths the action and damps the closure of concealed hinges in cabinets for kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms. Mepla hinges are supplied with an adaptor to allow Soft-close to be installed at any stage, so now furniture manufacturers can even extend choice to the end user customer at the point of sale.

Vauth-Sagel are manufacturers of wire-based products that have revolutionised storage in modern kitchens (and in bedrooms and bathrooms) with practical, easy to use innovations that offers users an element of planning and order that did not previously exist. Vauth-Sagel have just introduced a simple, elegant storage unit to maximise space in those awkward corner cabinets; they also make a wide range of pullout storage for pantries and larders, wardrobes, vanity units and much more …

Ninka also are global leaders in storage of a different kind, based on plastic mouldings. Ninka also focused on corner spaces and made them their own with carousels - the famous Mondo is a Ninka design for base cabinet corners. Eclipse soon followed for the space above at worktop level and then … the space above that for wall hanging.

And Hailo are the undisputed leaders of the current environmental revolution in British kitchens under the waste segregation, storage, and management banner. Using models developed in Germany, where the environmental imperative surfaced some years ago, Hailo now have an enormous range of single, double and multibin options to deal efficiently with kitchen waste. Products that help householders to move towards a Britain no longer reliant on huge holes in the ground indiscriminately filled with mixed garbage.
