Stylish sanitaryware

The number of bathrooms now included in a property is definitely pushing sanitaryware sales into the stratosphere right now. Even at the lower ends of the new build market, most family homes will have at least two bathrooms, and it’s no longer rare for a property to have as many bathrooms as bedrooms.

In terms of sanitaryware, this affects the market in two ways. Firstly it has of course helped increase sales phenomenally and secondly it has increased the market for space-saving products.

While we may be adding more bathrooms by the year, there is not necessarily more development land to build bigger properties so they are being squeezed into the same footprint as a home that would previously only have had one bathroom.

Naturally this means that space-saving solutions such as narrow-depth basins, clever corner WC and basins, and specially designed showerbaths, are increasingly becoming the norm.

The fact that it’s predicted that 60 per cent of the adult EU population will be aged over 50 by 2010 means the need for sanitaryware that will suit an ageing population without compromising on style is also currently a major concern.

Compact walk-in baths, higher WC heights and easy to use basins must be both practical but also good looking. It’s no longer about special needs, but “inclusive” design that will appeal to all and be usable by all.

Finally, looking at style trends – minimalism continues to reign supreme and colourwise it is still white, white, white. Many canny home owners can appreciate that a simple pure white suite is the perfect canvas for any number of décor schemes and this is certainly where they are spending their money.

Consumers want quality that will last and well made, durable sanitaryware, preferably with a life-long guarantee is now, more than ever, considered a sound investment.
