Jewson re-joins the BMF
Published:  14 February, 2008

Jewson, the UK's largest mixed merchant chain, has re-joined the Builders Merchants Federation following an absence of 3 years.

Jewson Managing Director Peter Hindle said the decision was a reflection both of the company's commitment to the strategic development of the merchant industry, and of the positive changes which have taken place within the BMF over the last two years.

"It's always been Jewson's policy to take an active part in working with others to strengthen and develop the merchant market," said Mr Hindle.

"As a market-leading business, we participate in a great many policy groups and trade bodies.  But the BMF is unique in being focused entirely upon the merchant industry.  We have seen that focus grow strongly and sharply in the last few months particularly with the move away from retailer membership; we feel it is more important than ever for Jewson to play an active role in this vital industry forum."

The decision will bring key Jewson product managers on to the BMF's Product Focus Groups, where merchants and manufacturers meet to discuss product and market developments.  Jewson is also committed to sharing best practice in training and staff development, and helping to develop and sharpen the BMF's approach to environmental and sustainability issues.

The decision was welcomed by BMF Managing Director Chris Pateman, who sees it as an important strengthening of the Federation's ambition to truly represent the entire merchant trade.

"When we look at the developments in government thinking and supply chain dynamics, it's clear that the whole manufacturer /merchant /contractor route to market is coming under increasing pressure. Now, more than ever, the merchant trade needs to speak with one voice, unalloyed by the commercial and competitive considerations, which govern most relationships in our industry.we move into 2008."
