In a bid to raise standards across the Bathroom Industry and boost professionalism the Bathroom Manufacturers Association (BMA) created its Bathroom Academy, which is now preparing the next stage of development with the Virtual Academy.
The virtual Bathroom Academy will be launched at Bathroom & Kitchen Expo in May. The Academy will be available at www.bathroom-academy.co.uk and will offer students all facilities online including registration, access to course material, testing and payment.
Course material is broken down into a series of seven Generic Industry Guides and six Core Merits. Written by Industry experts, each Guide offers a consistent voice and follows the same five elements: right choice of product; generic industry design; generic industry installation; FAQ; and, Industry terminology, providing invaluable product knowledge to installers, merchants and retailers.
The current Guides feature detailed information on Bathroom Furniture, Brassware, Shower Enclosures, Shower Trays, Shower Controls, Sanitaryware and Fittings, plus Baths and due to their overwhelming popularity – 5,000 downloaded each month - the Bathroom Academy is currently drafting new Guides to cover water efficiency, CAD, counter tops and boilers.
Upon successful completion of each Core Merit, students receive a certificate to authenticate their newly acquired knowledge. After receiving six merits, candidates are awarded their Certificate in Bathroom Studies and entry into the “members only” Bathroom Academy is permitted, which allows members to remain abreast of new products and offers access to assistance with Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and networking.
Feedback from those who have completed the course material is extremely positive with many businesses reporting that sales have increased and their staff now get it right first time.
Wilky Bathrooms are very impressed with the results. Dominic Hughes ( pictured right), Chief Executive, says: “I would highlight a number of key points. We have found that our sales people who completed the Core Merits have more confidence dealing with customers and tricky specifications. They get it right first time and this is the most cost effective way to conduct business whilst at the same time boosting consumer confidence.
“As products become more complex, the Industry needs people who really understand what they are doing. For example, they should know why a shower would leak in three years’ time if not installed properly.”
If you want to further your career in the Bathroom Industry, the Bathroom Academy is offering a special offer of six Core Merits for the price of four for anyone who signs up at Bathroom & Kitchen Expo or for those who contact the BMA quoting reference BA073. Please come and see us on Stand A60.
To help you get started, the Bathroom Academy will be hosting a Training Workshop at B&K Expo on Monday, May 14th, at 11.30am. For further details, please write to Training Manager Phil Lumley at phil.lumley@bathroom-association.org.uk
